Contractor Blogging: Blog. Become The Expert. Generate Leads. Close More Business.

Lets talk about blogging to generate leads.  Obviously your budget for advertising has been pretty tight over the last couple years, if it’s been existent at all.  Most business owners have lived off referrals, lived off of work that was in the pipeline or focused on more traditional types of marketing.  That’s where if you started to blog about your particular service or business line, you would have been in a better position to withstand the downturn a few years ago.

As you grow your blog by adding posts to it, as you use social media to market your posts, more and more people will know who you are, what you do and how you do it.  What will wind up happening if you do this right is you will not only build your brand but you will bring in new business.

If your blog posts tell people how to do what you do, helping them make their own decisions, people will start to come to you and seek you out as the expert and hire you.  Now, what’s going to happen is this; let’s say you do insurance and let’s say last year you sold 1,000 homeowner policies. What would happen to your business if you gained 10% of your homeowner policies from blog posts on your website? Would that make a difference in your business?

What the big picture is that I want you to take away from this post is that’s 100 leads a month you generated that you didn’t have to pay for, that you didn’t have to market to with some type of direct mail or pay per click.  They contacted you as the expert because your content was compelling enough to get them to move.

Now, the cost of acquisition is extremely low, right?  It’s a free lead.  But your chance of closing that lead is much higher than any other marketing that you do.  They already think, they already know that you’re the expert.  All you have to do now is help them get to where they need to be and you’re probably going to land that job.

So, that’s another key benefit to starting blogging for your business is to make yourself the expert for what you do in your market.  Now if you look around, everybody is advertising in the same place, everyone is a crab in the basket trying to get to that same customer.  But, how many people are you competing are blogging, every day, a couple times a week, even once a week?

If there’s nobody in that space, guess what, you’ve got a first mover advantage that you need to jump on.  Get your act in gear and get started doing. So if you’re not doing it now, let’s talk, figure out a way to get it started for you and start generating some free leads.
