Use Unfair Comparisons to Your Advantage When Marketing Your Contracting Company

I was doing a call last night and the topic came up about competition, and I remembered that I shot this video a while back where I talk about the fact that you don’t compete with just the other guys in your trade, but with all of the influences that come into play when home owners are deciding what to do to their homes. In other words, remodelers compete not only with other remodelers, but with home builders and real estate agents, trying to convince your prospect that they should move instead of remodel. Watch the video and let me know what you think.

In you email and video you mention ‘all of the influences’ that a homeowner is facing, the realtor and the new home builder, but there are many others. The homeowner may have saved $12,000 and has a $9,000 remodel project, but they are also needing $3,200 in dental work, new tires for the car, and a trip to visit a relative that they have been putting off for two years, etc. If the homeowner hesitates to do the whole project we need to be prepared to change te scope of work (not cut our price) and offer to do the project in phases with the mindset that getting part of the job now is better than nothing, (plus increases your chance of future work).
