Why Contractors Need an Online Presence

As the Internet evolves, more and more businesses are creating websites, social media pages and even blogs. Sure, not all contractors have blogs but if you are serious about improving your online marketing strategy and building a larger client list, it is mandatory.

The great thing about having a blog for your business is that you can be as little or as much involved with it as you wish. If you don’t want to write an article everyday, that’s cool. If you just want to do it once a week, that’s cool too. I would suggest you don’t go more than two weeks without posting.

By starting a blog related to your contracting company, you will notice an improvement in your online marketing success. Three things that your blog will do are:

1. Improve Customer Relations = Repeat Business & Referrals

2. Make You an Authority

3. Assist in Search Engine Rankings

Pretty sweet right?

Improving Customer Relations

Creating a blog will give you the opportunity to interact more with your customers. Blog posts might be able to answer their questions, build their trust in you, ensure you are bonded and experienced, or give them new ideas. It is important to be transparent in your copy and to not be the obnoxious used car sales man. It is a major turn off. URLs are incredibly easy to share. If you post something that a reader finds interesting they can easily share it with their network in a matter of seconds.

Making You and Authority

If you are taking the time out to share useful information with your readers, clients and the public, you are building an insane amount of trust. By pushing out quality and not “salesy” content, you are providing value to your readers. Once you provide value to them, you become an expert in their minds. Maybe they have been following your blog for 6 months just doing some research, they aren’t sure what they might need you for. But the minute they do need something, who do you think they are going to go to? You.

Assisting in your Organic Search Engine Rankings

If you use the Internet and have a company, you are aware that ranking well for your targeted keywords is important. Well good news. Producing high quality, relevant content helps your rankings. You probably won’t be ranking number one for “Contractor Company” but it will help with longer tail searches.

What Do I Do Now?

It makes sense to start a blog. But where exactly should you start? If you have a website, which I pray that you do, talk to your webmaster about adding a blog to your site. From there brainstorm ideas to write about. Like I said, you do not have to push out content everyday. Start asking yourself:

  • What are some industry trends?
  • Is there any recent news in the industry?
  • What are some of the most commonly asked questions?
  • What problems do you have answers to?

From there you should be able to come up with a list of at least 10 articles. Spread them out over two months and then ask yourself the same questions again. If you are consistent with creating content, thinking of ideas should not be a problem.

To your success!

Nice article. Also remember, blogging takes effort. It could take years before you build a following.

Great post! The industry is still catching on to the idea, but we think more and more will slowly move toward blogging and establishing a stronger online presence.
