Google isn’t making it easy for contractors, Places, Plus, Pages, who the hell knows what it is today. Well, this one reason alone could be why your listing on Google Place/Pages/Plus disappeared.
My point here is, stop relying so much on search. You marketed your business before Google, don’t stop now. Your website is going to be seen by more people than any other marketing initiative you do, so make THAT what you focus on!

Good stuff, as always Darren. Hearing a lot of contractors complain about losing reviews on G+ as well, all the more reason to make your site the holder of all your content!
